APPLETON Roebuck dropped to bottom of division one of the Fulford Ladies Invitation League when York's Christine Place and Wendy Stirk only dropped one game.

York went joint top along with Poppleton and Fulford, who met each other and Poppleton had a good 63-45 win, Sue Peach and Rosie Cantrell had three straight wins winning 24 games.

Wheldrake had a close win against Tadcaster but were outclassed by the skill of Jane Firn and Debbie Young - Tadcaster's number one's who won 26 games.

Bishopthorpe had a good win over struggling Selby 75-33, and Cawood and Castlegarth both enjoyed good wins to move joint second only two points behind leaders Bishopthorpe.

Cawood beat York in a great battle as Georgina Worley and Sue Matchett, along with team mates Lorraine Bishop and Madeline Sutcliffe, had 9-3 wins in the last round to score a narrow 58-50 success.

Castlegarth had little trouble beating New Earswick, who found inform Sue Jacklin and Dot Mackintosh hard to get many games from - Jacklin and Mackintosh finished winning 32 games in a 79-29 victory.

Dunnington and Cliffe are joint leaders in division three but both teams were involved in close matches.

Dunnington entertained Riccall and needed the skill and experience of Di Wrigglesworth and Linda Molloy to bring in three good wins, 10-2 9-3 9-3, in a 59-49 success.

Cliffe relied on a good all-round team performance as they beat Strensall.

Kelly Smith and Shirley Leek were unbeaten, winning 20 games, and Mary Pepper and Jo Earl 21 games needed Mary Smith and Jane Hinchcliffe to finish with a 9-3 to give them 17 games to run out 58-50 winners.

Rowntree Park had a good victory over newly promoted Sheriff Hutton, who are finding the standard a lot harder but didn't give up as they battle for their first league point.

Sutton Upon Derwent went joint top of division four beating Copmanthorpe very convincingly 82-26.

There were winning points for Wistow, who beat Poppleton with a good team performance. Pam Huggins and Val Bell started well with an 8-4 win, and Justin Vickers and Sue Hudson remained unbeaten, winning 26 games having two 9-3 wins.

Jane Macdonald and captain Jill Marsden won 21 games, finished with a 9-3 win in a 65-43 victory.

Fulford beat Knaresborough with top scorers Madeline Hatfield and Pat Hickson winning 26 games allowed for the experienced Jean Haw and young Stephanie Jinks, in her first match, to bring in 17 hard earned games to give them two more league points.

Newcomers Heworth had two good wins beating Stillington and Selby in division five. Anne Gray and Barbara Leopard top scored with 26 games against Selby.

Allison and Jo Ward were in unstoppable mood winning 29 games at Stillington.

Dunnington are top on games difference over Wheldrake who found Strensall in a fighting mode. No couple could get three straight wins but Strensall's Catherine Lees and Sue Raine had three close matches, two 7-5 wins and a 6-6 draw before losing 59-49.

Dunnington beat Selby. Jane Birch and Peggy Hopwood got Dunnington off to a good start winning 12-0 in the first round, Liz Stacey and Barbara Plummer did the same in the second round and Jean Yates and Judith Moks had two big 10-2 wins in their match to give them a 75-33 win.
