In a rain affected Division One programme in the Tyke Petroleum men's Tennis League, Poppleton continued their winning ways beating York I by 58-50.

The two first couples of Mark Bland and Howard Pallister, for York, and Rob Jones with John Fisher shared the scoring honours with 23, the Poppleton pair being unbeaten.

Wigginton remain on top of division two after beating Poppleton II 73-35. Robin Wright and Paul Airlie led a good team effort with an unbeaten 28.

Knaresborough scored their first points beating unhappy Bishop-thorpe 86-22. M and A Davis scored 33, including two rubbers at 12-0.

Strensall had a good win over Castlegarth, who had been looking strong.

In the 56-52 score, only Richard Pears and Patrick Atkinson for Strensall were unbeaten on 23.

Sutton upon Derwent kept their 100 per cent record beating Fulford 69-39.

For Sutton, Chris French and Chris Hobson scored a maximum against their opposing first pair but Paul Colbeck and Mark Goddard were top on 28.

Games separate the top five teams in division three but rain spoiled Poppleton's chance of going top.

Copmanthorpe took that honour after winning at New Earswick 79-29.

Paul Copley and Paul Scholfield scored an unbeaten 27 as did Carl Addison and Graham Butcher with 9-3 in each rubber.

Appleton Roebuck also won 79-29 against Dunnington II, third pair Paul Harrison and David Bradley scoring 29 including one maximum.

Wheldrake stay narrowly above Castlegarth despite losing to them 63-45. Adrian Bury and Stuart Robinson scored 22 for the winners.

The battle at top of division four brought a victory and top of the table for Wilberfoss by beating Cliffe 56-52.

In a tight game with no pair unbeaten, Brian Walker and Mark Tebbutt made the difference for the winners with 20 games.

Cawood II stay in second place with only a 59-49 win over Wigginton II, yet to score.

Cawood's unbeaten third pair, Richard and Robert Taylor, dropped only one game in the first rubber scoring 24 overall. Copmanthorpe II had their first win, 66-42 over Riccall II.

Rob Abbott and Ron Machen scored 26 leaving Riccall without points.

In division five, Boston Spa continued to build on last year's promotion beating Dunnington II 60-48; Ewen Clark and Andrew Elliott scored 27, but John Develly and Mark Laind had to concede the last 12 games because of injury.

Appleton Roebuck II stay second despite losing to Nestle, also by 60-48.

Ed and Peter Ziegler were top scorers with 25 although they lost 7-5 to Nestl's Clive Christison and Richard Rafton.

In Selby's 64-44 win over Sheriff Hutton, Andrews and Burton top scored with 28.

The only match in division six brought a win for leaders Rufforth, by 77-31, against Wheldrake II. David Laws and Andy Ivel were the week's top scorers with 33.
