YORK'S first team gained a good win against the team that wrestled the division one title from them in the IT Sports York and District Mixed Tennis League and stay at the top on games difference.

York fielded a strong side against Fulford and won 77-31 with Pete Goodall and Lynsey Jacks winning 28 games to top the scoring just ahead of Vic Fielder and Margaret Whitehead.

Poppleton are in second place on a games difference of eight after their win against Dunnington, who suffered their first loss.

York and Poppleton do not meet until the last game of the first half of the season and both teams will want to field strong teams as the two fixtures are likely to decide the outcome of the title.

Civil Service went into third place after their win against York seconds 72-36 to leave York still looking for their first points.

Castlegarth are the only unbeaten team in division three after they travelled to Civil Service and took the points winning 61-47, led by the unbeaten Mike Butterworth and Sue Jacklin.

Bishopthorpe go third after their win at New Earswick, led by Simon Watson and Frances Critchley 64-44.

The clash of the two teams in division four without a point ended with a win for York at Cawood 59-49. In a very close encounter, York's top scorers, George Tattersall and Becky Taylor, won their final rubber 10-2 to seal victory.

Tollerton stay top after their win at Strensall in a competitive match 63-45 and drawing with York.

Dunnington joined the pack of teams on four points after their win at Fulford. Phil Spencer and Sue Sumner were the best pair on the night and led Dunnington's win with 28 games.

Strensall bounced back with a 63-45 win at Wilberfoss to move away from the relegation area. They were led by James Whitwell and Di Hardy, who were unbeaten with 26 games.

Three teams are still unbeaten in division five, led by Bubwith, who added Copmanthorpe to their list of victories. Jim Tennant and Jill Schofield were in top form winning 29 of their side's games.

Stillington are in second, also unbeaten after their encounter with Rowntree Park where they came away with a 63-45 victory - Graham Cookman and Liz Pocklington in unbeatable form.

Bubwith and Stillington clash tonight.

Cliffe are in third place also unbeaten after their latest win at Appleton Roebuck 66-42. Cliffe's John Leetham and Janet Jackson were the only unbeaten pair of the evening winning 27 games.

Poppleton have moved into second place in division six after their win at Dunnington.

Poppleton had John Major and Dee Robinson unbeaten with good support from Julian Crabb and Marjorie Collinson.

Sheriff Hutton won their first match of the season against Cawood 57-51 to move from the bottom leaving Tadcaster without a point.

Heworth have gone to the top of division seven after two wins at Tollerton and pointless Wigginton.

Alan Bradshaw and Christine Vis were Heworth's top scorers at Tollerton with Andrew Ward and Lucy Collier topping the pile at Wigginton.

Rufforth lost to Wistow in a match of contrasting fortunes for Wistow, who move into third place. Just behind are Civil Service who defeated Strensall in a match of wind, sun and rain.

Wigginton are finding the going tough after they lost to Fulford 68-40 and join Rufforth at the bottom.

Again, Leo Waters and Katie Hargreaves were Fulford's top scorers winning 30 games.

Strensall are top of division eight after their win over York, who were only able to field two couples.

Unbeaten after Wistow also won against Dunnington, Wistow's Alan Hearn and Sue Hudson were in unstoppable form winning 31 games.

However, one of these clean sheets is likely to go as the top two teams are to meet on Thursday night.

Appleton Roebuck are in third place after their win against New Earswick 75-33 led by Graham Scattergood and Liz Maunder who won 30 games.

Sutton upon Derwent are now the leaders of division nine after wins against Wilberfoss 64-44 and previously unbeaten Cliffe. Sutton's Dave Nowell and Julie Buxton were the best couple in both matches winning 27 games in each fixture.

Wilberfoss bounced back with a win at Wigginton to take the third spot, led by the unbeaten George Allison and Kath Clarke.

Tollerton eased away from the wrong end of division ten after their win against Wheldrake in the closest of matches 55-53.

Strensall moved into second place after they entertained Wistow and kept the points in a 67-41 win.
