YORK firm Shepherd Construction has taken a step up after scooping the leading quality assurance award.
The firm's British Standards registration has been upgraded from ISO 9002, which covers construction activities, to ISO 9001, which relates to the management of design and construction.
The change in registration was granted by the British Standards Institute following its assessment of more than £100m million worth of design and build projects currently being constructed in Livingston, Richmond, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bishop Auckland.
Shepherd pioneered the design and build concept more than 40 years ago, and has a strong track record of design and build projects, using both its in-house design service and external design teams.
Geoff Simpson, managing director, said: "Our decision to add the management of the design process to our previously registered construction and refurbishment activities forms part of our continuos improvement process. Shepherd is now a member of a far more exclusive club."
