A SUBSIDY scheme aimed at giving North Yorkshire businesses a boost has been extended after being hailed a major success.

The Harrogate Borough Council-run discount scheme allows firms in the authority's district to join Business Link North Yorkshire's Privileged Customer Scheme and access the body's advisory services, which cover IT, exporting and design, for half price.

Businesses with fewer than 50 employees who have not had the subsidy before are charged only £30 a year.

The arrangement, which was initially due to end in March, has been extended after 103 businesses took up the subsidised Privileged Customer Scheme and 14 firms began working with advisers on a range of projects.

Benefits include automatic entry into the annual York and North Yorkshire business directory, a free copy of the directory, a tailored mailing list of up to 100 York and North Yorkshire companies and a range of discounts on seminars, workshops and business information inquiry services.
