A DIGITAL company's free interactive services have been slated by an angry York man who says he is still waiting to receive them after more than four months.

And trading standards officers in York have received other complaints from people who have purchased NTL's digital TV package offering free TV internet and email.

Paul Minton, 31, of Monkton Road, signed up to the Cable and Wireless digital TV and phone service (now owned by NTL) last February for £28 a month.

His switch from an analogue service included the promise of free internet, email and interactive games, for no extra cost.

A letter to Paul dated February 29 from the company assured him he would get the free services "from early 2000" but he has still not been given them.

Paul said: "I feel cheated. Since February I've been told eight times that I would get the services but they still won't go on. They now tell me I will have to wait another month for them. The only reason I switched over from their analogue service was because of the freebies they were offering."

Paul has received about £60 in goodwill payments from the company but he is still making an official statement to trading standards officers about them.

He said: "I want to go all the way with this and will do whatever it takes. There must be lots of people like me who are left disappointed. They must not be allowed to get away with it."

A spokeswoman for City of York Council said: "We've had a number of complaints very recently so it's far too early to know what the outcome will be. If people are prepared to make statements we can investigate their case with a view to criminal prosecutions. We can also advise them of their civil rights."

A spokeswoman for NTL said: "We've had a number of teething problems with the digital products. In order to ensure quality for the customer we've had to withhold on some of the delivery dates for our interactive services. We can only apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope customers will be delighted with the services when they are fully functioning."
