FASHION design students at York College are holding their final year National Diploma catwalk show tomorrow.

The event marks the culmination of two years' work for the students, which included a trip to Paris where they explored fabric, cut and detail.

The fashion students showing their work include Rachel Morris, who has based her collection on Catholicism, using modern denims, and Wesley Jackson, whose Unity collection was inspired by different cultures.

Siu Fang Cheung got her ideas from The Elements, with the colours in her collection inspired by sandscapes and Robbie McNair made all the clothes for her Space-inspired collection from rubber and plastic.

Some of the students plan to stay at York College to do the HND in fashion, others have places at universities and other colleges, including the London College of Fashion and Northumbria University.

The show will also include work from the first-year National Diploma students, the first-year HND students and three second-year HND students who have recently won prizes for their final collections.

Sharon McAra-James, fashion lecturer, said: "All the National Diploma students have worked so hard to make their collections perfect - fingers crossed that everything goes to plan on the night. They deserve the best."

The two shows are taking place at 2pm and 7.30pm at the Macmillan Sports Hall at the further and higher education site of the college. Tickets are free in the afternoon and £2.50 for the evening show.
