WE have campaigned for many years for clean seas for the benefit of this and future generations, vehemently opposing Government and water companies over their previous policy of discharging untreated sewage into the sea.
We place on record our appreciation of the care and concern of Dr Kevin Bond who recently retired as chief executive of Yorkshire Water plc.
His appointment seemed to bring about a crucial change in Yorkshire Water's public relations from arrogant "we know best" to a real concern to get all viewpoints on board for careful scrutiny to avoid any more public relations disasters but, at the same time, maximising protection of the environment.
With full treatment sewage schemes making excellent progress on Yorkshire's beautiful coastline during Dr Bond's tenure of office, the prospect of an enduring sea change is now in sight.
