I WAS driving to Haxby along the back road which leaves the A19 at the Shipton church of Saint John The Evangelist on May 14 last year.
I recall the date because my uncle died on May 13, Ascension Day.
As I drove close to the turning to the Jacobean Hotel and near Brown's Nurseries, I saw what appeared to be a roe deer leaping across the road.
Can any reader enlighten me as to the likely habitat of this creature? I have not seen one in this vicinity again.
Is there a herd or was it a stray wild deer perhaps living in the local woods?
