NEW York City capture Gary Hobson has told the Evening Press of his delight at joining Terry Dolan's Bootham Crescent rebuild.

Hobson, who is set to become the City chief's third pre-season summer signing subject to passing a medical, confessed his Minstermen move was "a dream".

"I couldn't have asked for a better move," said the North Ferriby-born defender.

"In footballing terms I know Terry Dolan very well, he gave me my debut at Hull City, and in terms of location I wanted to move back north - so I am delighted."

Hobson revealed relegated Chester City, who he played 20 games for at the end of last season and went on to skipper, had offered him a two-year deal.

"I could have stayed," said the 27-year-old. "But I didn't want to play Conference football and I believe I am good enough to stay in the League.

"I am at an important stage of my career and so this move is just perfect for me."

Hobson maintains automatic promotion for City was not unrealistic.

"Promotion is a definite possibility, " he said. "The squad has a lot of experience and I have heard they have got a lot of good young players coming through.

"I have seen the ground and the pitch is superb, the training ground I hear is fantastic and so it wasn't a difficult decision.

"The club finished well under Terry last year and so I would think we have got to be in with a chance.

"Without wanting to put us under any undue pressure automatic promotion is not unrealistic."

Former York City striker Glenn Naylor could be joining the exodus from Darlington.

According to Darlington boss David Hodgson, out of contract Naylor has exercised his rights under the Bosman ruling and is looking for another club.
