YORK City's former striker Richard Cresswell's proposed move to Preston North End has hit an apparent stumbling block - keeping alive the Minstermen's slim hopes of receiving a sell-on fee.

City agreed a sell-on clause with Sheffield Wednesday when he joined the Owls for £950,000 in March last year - but the Minstermen will receive extra cash only if the 22-year-old leaves Hillsborough for a greater fee.

And it is the believed the fee agreed between Wednesday and Preston was about £750,000.

That move, though, is now on ice as personal terms were not agreed before the Lilywhites' manager, David Moyes, left to join the squad on a tour of Northern Ireland.

Discussions are unlikely to resume until next week, although it is believed Cresswell is now set for talks with other clubs, one of which is thought to be Bristol City, now managed by Danny Wilson who originally took him to Wednesday.

City secretary Keith Usher said: "We got £950,000 so we can't be disappointed if we get no sell-on. It would be nice if we receive some more money, but that's all part of dealing with financial agreements."
