WHEN the York Arc Light Project on Leeman Road first opened I wrote to the Evening Press about my grave concerns stating that all this does for the city is give a big come to York signal to the country's down-and-outs.

Since then nothing has happened to change my mind. If anything, I am even more convinced that City of York Council was wrong to allow the project. You only have to look at court reports to see three or four names prosecuted for drunkenness, theft etc., all giving their address as York Arc Light Centre. To whom are these people accountable?

They certainly do not give a great first impression to tourists whom York traders rely on. One way to cut York's crime figures and save police time would be to close down the Arc Light centre.
