aPOCKLINGTON picked up two excellent points in Yorkshire Division One with a 22-9 away win in their derby at Selby.

The Sandhill Lane club were previously unbeaten in the league and they opened the scoring with a fourth minute penalty by fly-half Carl Paterson.

But while Selby's forwards had the edge in the set pieces, Pocklington were the more incisive out wide and they took over the lead when good passing in the backs sent left wing Ben Connolly sprinting over for a try that Gary Pearce converted.

Paterson kicked Selby back in front with a drop goal and another penalty, followed by Pocklington losing two forwards through injury.

But visiting backs Kevin Bowling and Pearce combined to feed skipper Sammy Anderson to score, Pearce converting.

Pocklington's pack effort was further disrupted on either side of half-time as they had two forwards sin-binned and two more blood-binned. But Pearce kicked them further ahead with a penalty, and despite being again pushed backwards at a scrum, Pocklington still managed to get the ball away to Connolly, who jinxed passed three defenders on a 40-yard run to the line for his second touchdown.

Selby laid siege to the Pocklington line in the closing minutes, running a series of close range penalties. However, they could find no way through some determined Pocklington defence and the visitors held firm for a deserved win.
