Firefighters cut free a man trapped for 20 minutes after a car and a truck collided.
The accident happened on the B1228 Elvington Road as the red BMW car was apparently trying to overtake the truck, police said.
A 21-year-old man trapped in the BMW suffered superficial arm and head injuries, while another two people were slightly hurt. All three were taken to York District Hospital.
TC Steve Earnshaw said: "The HGV was travelling away from Elvington towards Hull Road, followed by a van and two cars.
"The car at the back appears to have been overtaking as the HGV was turning right into Common Lane and they collided."
