Harmonic Way can come out on top in the featured sprint at Newmarket tomorrow - provided the daring tactics of his jockey Richard Hughes are timed to perfection.

A horse who is habitually dropped-out at the rear of the field in the early stages, Harmonic Way has a brilliant finishing surge, as he has proved in high-class company numerous times in the last two seasons.

It doesn't, however, always go right. In the Diadem Stakes at Ascot last time out, Hughes was unable to find a way through and had to switch his mount to the wide outside.

That Harmonic Way still managed to finish a close fifth to Sampower Star, breathing down the necks of the placed horses at the line, says much for his performance.

It will be nail-biting stuff for his supporters again tomorrow in the £25,000 Keyline Builders' Merhants Bentinck Stakes. But if the pieces fall into place there is every chance that Harmonic Way will take the honours. Living dangerously, I am prepared to award him the Nap vote.

Henry Cecil has not had the best of seasons by his high standards, but the popular Warren Place trainer can clinch the Egerton Stud Darley Stakes with On The Ridge.

Richard Quinn's mount did not make his seasonal debut until a fortnight ago on this course, but he ran a cracking race to finish second to Hopeful Light. Likely to have benefitted from that outing, On The Ridge can win this time.

Painted Room, who made a promising debut at the last Newmaket meeting, is capable of providing Cecil and Quinn with another victory in the Chesterton Maiden Stakes.

Johnny Murtagh, whose dual-Derby and Arc-winning mount Sinndar was yesterday retired to stud, can console himself by winning the Group 3 Princess Royal Stakes on Riyafa.

Like Sinndar, Riyafa is owned by the Aga Khan, and this progressive three-year-old underlined her growing prowess when winning a Listed race at Ascot three weeks ago.

Tomorrow's race should have taken place at Ascot last Saturday, but the abandonment of that meeting has resulted in a switch of venues. It should not matter a jot to Riyafa, who is strongly fancied to clinch the spoils.
