IT'S old hands on deck - as well as young - at a York sailing club.

Plain sailing all the way, these hardy members of the Yorkshire Ouse Sailing Club at Naburn enjoy nothing more than splashing about on the water.

The club's youngest sailor, seven-year-old Paul Walmsley, has just completed his basic training, while one of its oldest, 86-year-old Emily Biscomb, crews for her husband.

The pair took to the wind for our photo in a bid to get more people interested in their beloved sport - particularly in the wake of Olympic successes on the water. Each summer the Yorkshire Ouse Sailing Club offers a Go Boating for Free Day to encourage newcomers to the popular leisure activity.

The club is funded by members' subscriptions and is on the look-out for more people to keep afloat for decades to come.

Club member Len Spray said: "We would like to think that we can nurture the likes of young Paul to become Olympics champions by 2016."
