York and District Indoor Bowls Club's hopes of winning the prestigious Denny Cup remain high after a resounding 113-52 victory in the third round against Yorkshire rivals North Cave.

At home there were comfortable wins for Paul Mooring, John Emmerson, Barry Walker and Doug Mitchell beating White, Jarvis, McConville and Hubbard by 40 shots to nine. This was after they had scored a five and a six on the 16th and 17th ends.

David Stroughair was joined by Stuart Bryan, Michael Bruce and one of York's up and coming players, Duane Kellett and beat Killgallon, Murton, Cheater and Maurice Hebden 29-12.

At North Cave, Iain Boyle, Gordon Smith, Fred Clayden and Graham Instone had a convincing 22-12 win although they allowed their opponents Buchan, Sellers, Medd and Petersen to score five in the last two ends.

In the other rink, Mick Parker, Dave Hewick, Graham Brooke and Phil Parsons led 18-6 after 12 ends but allowed Waudby, Fielder, Hazell and Boyle to come back to 19-17 before the away side sealed a 22-19 win. York now play Hornsea in round four on Saturday, November 18.

New Earswick's men came through a tricky game in the Denny Plate against Ryedale 74-68.

At home Bob Edwards, Arthur Hattee, Alistair Sugden and Harry Rhodes made an excellent comeback against P Twamley, T Wilford, G Stonehouse and H Read. After being 14-5 they fought back to win 21-19.

The other game at Huntington Road was close with Gary Bunce, Paul Dawson, Ken Lipett and Dave Birch drawing 16-16 against Nigel Watson, J Murray, P Humphries and H Hill.

At Ryedale, Malcolm Beavers, Anthony Scruton, John Snowden and Tony Taylor were always in charge against Nigel Brignall, J Gurney, R Ruddock and A Mitchell and won 21-14.

Bill Waldie joined with Ken Harrison, Barry Johnson and Brian Chapman for another exciting game against Mark Walton, A Young, M Collins and E Cookson. They were tied at 13-13 after 18 ends before Waldie's team gained a three only to lose 19-16.

New Earswick Ladies opened their North Eastern League campaign with an 89-74 defeat by Hornsea.
