LITTLE and large at the double lies behind the logic of York City manager Terry Dolan's latest raid in the transfer market.

As first revealed on the Evening Press website www.thisisyork yesterday, Dolan has landed striker Chris Iwelumo on a month's loan from Second Division Stoke City.

And in another boost for the City chief, Premiership Aston Villa have also agreed to extend the loan deal that will keep fellow forward Neil Tarrant at Bootham Crescent for another month.

Even with transfer-listed Barry Conlon currently on loan at Colchester and broken-leg victim Peter Duffield out for the season, Iwelumo's arrival means City still have seven recognised strikers battling it out for just two places.

But Dolan has indicated he sees new arrivals Iwelumo, Tarrant, David McNiven and Alex Mathie as the key personnel in his packed strike force.

"It means we have now got two big lads and two small lads and we have now got alternatives," he insisted.

"Chris is a big lad and he has got ability and he wanted to come here which I am happy about."

Crucially for the York boss, both Iwelumo and Tarrant have been given clearance by their clubs to appear for City in next week's FA Cup first round tie.

Iwelumo, said to have good aerial ability combined with tidy footwork, was drafted straight into the City squad for this afternoon's clash with Torquay United but Dolan indicated the 6ft 4ins giant was likely to start on the bench.

It is understood a number of clubs were tracking the Scottish-born 22-year-old, who actually scored against City in the Stoke's 5-1 Worthington Cup triumph at Bootham Crescent in August

The Potters signed Iwelumo in March last year for £25,000 from Danish Club Aarhus after spells at Kilmarnock, Ayr and St Mirren.

His chances at the Britannia Stadium have largely been restricted to substitute appearances but he has still bagged three goals after coming off the bench eight times this season.

The clock is ticking for supporters still wanting to quiz Terry Dolan on-line.

Fans have until noon on Monday to post their e-mail questions to City reporter Dave Stanford at dave.stanford@ycp.co.uk.
