GOAL hero Graham Potter is hoping the strike that set York City on their way to a comfortable 4-1 FA Cup triumph over non-league Radcliffe Borough will be just the first of many.

The summer signing finally found his touch in front of goal with a crisp volley just three minutes into yesterday's first round victory at Bury's Gigg Lane.

Now the former England Under-21 is hoping his goal and City's triumph will mark an overdue lift-off for both himself and the club.

"I have waited a long time for it and to be fair I have missed a few chances so it was nice to get the first one," he confessed.

"This will give me a bit of confidence and hopefully it will be the first of many.

"Because I haven't scored I was anxious to get a good contact and obviously I did because as soon as it left my foot I knew it was a goal."

Potter said City deserved credit for a potentially tricky job well-done, particularly in the first-half when a rampant City seemingly scored at will and raced into a 4-0 lead inside the first 30 minutes.

"We are delighted with the win," he said.

"It was a potential banana-skin for us and Radcliffe had done well to get to this stage.

"We had to be ready for them from the off and I think we were, the four goals meant it was job done at half-time really.

"They were good goals really, worthy to win any game. Scott Jordan has hit a great volley, David McNiven has put the ball in the top corner and Lee Bullock has scored with a good header."

Potter confessed City's second-half showing could not match that of the first but believed Radcliffe deserved credit for stemming the flow of goals conceded before grabbing a late consolation ten minutes from time.

"I think they came at us and credit to the them.

"They are a non-league side who enjoyed their day and had nothing to lose.

"The game was more or less over in the second-half so although we are disappointed with the way we played sometimes you have got to give the other team a bit of credit.

"We weren't too happy about the goal but at least it has given them something to remember the day by.

"They are out of the cup which is the most important thing for us but I think their supporters enjoyed the day and so everybody is happy in a way."

Scott Emmerson was City's scorer in their 2-1 Youth Alliance North Eastern Conference defeat at Hartlepool.
