I strongly object to Stephen Lewis's comments (Back To Our Routes, November 21), for the following reasons:

u We seem to be blamed for his long wait in New Lane. Our Y28 bus was on time, and it is not our fault that he arrived early for it.

u First York is not the only bus company in town. If he had called the city council's Businfo service (01904 551400), he would have been given information on other services as well - including the Y28.

u He described our bus as "scruffy". The Y28 and Y29 are run using two new buses, collected from Plaxtons only last month, which are thoroughly cleaned inside and out every night. Perhaps he didn't like the colour scheme?

u His comment about deliberately offering a £10 note to test the driver's reaction is simply silly. Our drivers are happy to give change.

Had Stephen Lewis mentioned to our driver that he was returning to town, he would have been told that the bus continued via Navigation Road - just a short distance from your offices.

Stephen Lewis obviously set out to prove that York's bus services are bad and simply tried to make the facts fit. He may have found a First York bus failing to run, but that is no reason to insult our staff. Our buses and our staff are proud to offer a warm, friendly and, especially, a reliable service.

Our drivers have already gained many compliments for their personal style of service and we are showing that there is another way.

Don't criticise us for turning up in the right place at the right time just because it spoils your story - ask our regular passengers what they think.
