NORTH Yorkshire police's policy of targeting known offenders continues to reap rewards. Today it was revealed that burglaries in York have dropped by nearly a third. Look beyond the statistics and the real value of this achievement emerges. People across the city have been saved the heartache of being burgled.
They have not had their peace of mind shattered; they have not had their home violated; their treasured possessions remain undisturbed; their life has not been thrown into turmoil. This is an achievement of inestimable value. The fewer the crimes, the greater the quality of life we all enjoy.
