In the past week a notice headed "consultation" was put up by City of York Council on the gate leading into Walmgate Stray off Heslington Road - it had been attached to a gatepost with Sellotape.

It pointed out that they are required by law to provide a definitive map of all rights of way in the city of York. The notice quickly became tattered and difficult to read and has now disappeared altogether.

This letter is to pass on the message of that original notice which indicated that before a decision is made on whether or not this path is a right of way, we are being asked to submit our comments.

If you want it to continue being a right of way it is most important to make this known and to state the number of years you have used the path.

Letters should be addressed to: The Public Rights of Way Officer, City of York Council, Environment & Development Services, 9 St. Leonard's Place, York YO1 17ET. Ref: PROW (R)/FCB York/Fishergate No.1.

Letters have to be received before January 5, 2001.

Thank you.

Alan Mosby,

Belle Vue Street,

York.
