City of York picked up a priceless 4-3 North League premier division victory at fellow strugglers Warrington.

But they had to survive a tension-packed finale as Warrington scored deep into what was thought to be injury time.

But a brief conference between the officials at the re-start established that five minutes had been inadvertently added with both umpires believing the other was the timer.

Although the goal stood, the final whistle was blown and, much to their relief, York had won 4-3.

Warrington took the lead when a shot deflected from 'keeper James Riley on to Gawaine Hogg's stick and into the goal.

But York soon equalised when a left wing run and cross by man-of-the-match Kyle Hogg was volleyed in by Chris Wilson.

Warrington responded with a flurry of short corners but York defenders Luke Griggs and Gawaine Hogg weathered the storm and York broke to snatch the lead with a short corner converted by Paul Sangwin.

Kyle Hogg continued to trouble Warrington and was unlucky when he produced a deft shot from behind his back which was deflected away by the Warrington 'keeper.

In the second half York struck again as Griggs gained possession and struck a long ball to Mike Thornicroft on the right. Thornicroft's hard cross was met at the far post by Kyle Hogg who scored to make it 3-1.

Warrington lost their cool and were reduced to nine men at one stage, but they trimmed arrears with a second goal.

However, Hogg netted again from Wilson's pass to make it 4-2 before Warrington's 'extra' goal.

After a sluggish start City of York II finally got into gear to sweep aside Newcastle University I 7-3 in North East Two.

Colin Moore knocked in the opener after Nick Carter's mishit shot from a short corner clipped a post. Glyn Humphrey made it 2-0 after a great passing movement.

That knocked the stuffing out of the students and Humphrey's solo run and shot from a tight angle increased York's lead.

Humphrey completed his hat-trick just after half-time when he touched in Moore's shot.

Two short corners for the students produced goals - one a penalty, the other a scrambled effort.

However, York re-established their grip when an assist by Humphrey enabled Chris Dutton to get on the scoresheet. Two minutes later Carter flicked in York's sixth.

Humphrey then added his fourth before Newcastle netted a consolation three minutes from the end.

Despite taking a much changed side to Grimsby I, City of York III won 4-0 in Yorkshire Four with Alex Fletcher grabbing a hat-trick and Ian Wiggins netting from close range.

Honours were shared between City of York V and Doncaster IV in division five.

A string of York chances were missed in the opening 20 minutes before Oliver Couttie netted York's opener.

Doncaster counter-attacked to net the equaliser but after the interval York, driven on by Adam Jackson and Mark Dransfield, improved.

Jules Bellerby and Mike Couttie stiffened the York defence and although Doncaster edged in front, York deservedly equalised when Dransfield collected Pat Birch's long pass and scored to make it 2-2.

Division seven leaders Leeds University III overpowered City of York V's young side 6-1, Roz Ramli netting York's goal.
