York City's FA Cup campaign will stall advances from neighbours Scarborough for power-packed striker James Turley.

City manager Terry Dolan confirmed to thisisyork that the Conference club - managed by Neil Thompson, Dolan's predecessor at Bootham Crescent - have targeted the Manchester-born marksman.

It was Thompson, who gave Turley his City debut 15 months ago. But under the reign of Dolan the diminutive front-man has had limited scope in the strike force.

The arrivals of David McNiven and Alex Mathie nudged the 19-year-old down the pecking order, a fall deepened by the signing of Stoke City striker Chris Iwelumo, whose initial loan spell at Bootham Crescent has now been extended to a further month.

And while Barry Conlon is to stay at Colchester United for the remainder of the season the future of Aston Villa striker Neil Tarrant, whose second month-long loan stint at Bootham Crescent ends on Saturday, remains unclear.

But Dolan insisted that Turley, who has been pencilled in for service in tomorrow's LDV Vans Trophy duel at home to Darlington (7.45pm), still had the chance to stake a claim in the red colours of the Minstermen.

And he added that as long as City remained in the FA Cup - they face a replay at Second Division Reading in a week's time for the right to travel to Premiership Leicester in the new year - there would be no imminent departures.

Said Dolan: "James Turley's name was mentioned by Scarborough at the same time as they asked about Scott Jordan.

"I said then I could not let anyone go in the midfield department as we had injuries to Steve Agnew and Kevin Hulme.

"As for James I told them (Scarborough) to give me a ring after the FA Cup run.

"I am expecting that both Jordan and Turley will be involved in the LDV Vans game. They have a chance to impress me in that game."

Whether City win or lose in the FA Cup second round at Reading's Madejski Stadium a week tonight, they will not be in Division Three action on January 6.

For City's scheduled game at home to Carlisle has been called off because the Cumbrians' entertain mighty Arsenal on third round day. Carlisle's visit to Bootham Crescent will now be three days later on Tuesday, January 9, kick-off 7.45pm.

City's second round heroics have pitched them into a fixture-crammed festive frenzy.

After playing Darlington tomorrow in the rearranged LDV Trophy tie, City travel to Plymouth on Saturday in the League.

The following Tuesday they are at Reading before returning to Bootham Crescent for a League clash with Blackpool on Friday. There are then trips to Macclesfield and Cheltenham on Boxing Day and December 30 respectively before welcoming Division Three title chasers Chesterfield to Bootham Crescent on New Year's Day.
