Rising York City star Chris Hogg will not be joining Manchester United.

The England Under-15 international's trial spell at Old Trafford ended at the weekend with the Red Devils deciding not follow up their interest in the highly-prized teenage centre-back.

The news is a massive boost to City after manager Terry Dolan last week scoffed at suggestions a deal with Old Trafford was all but cut and dried.

Dolan insisted the club was desperate to keep the Middlesbrough-born youngster, who has been on the Bootham Crescent books for three years and currently skippers the City Under-16 team.

The news has also delighted City's head of youth development, Paul Stancliffe, who has added Hogg to the City youth squad for tonight's FA Youth Cup third round replay at Huddersfield Town's McAlpine Stadium.

"We have said all along we didn't want to stand in Chris's way but we very definitely didn't want to lose him so we are delighted he is staying here for the time being," said Stancliffe.

"Manchester United have said he is obviously a good player but at this moment in time they didn't feel they could offer him terms.

"That is good news for York City and from what we can gather Chris is not too upset about it.

"Chris is happy to come back to York and from what he and his mum and dad have said at this present time he doesn't want to go anywhere else on trial.

"He is in the team for tonight and that is not just a PR exercise, he is in on merit because we have one or two injuries."
