Pickering Town boss Jimmy Reid has issued a stark warning to his players - buck up your ideas or lose your place.

Reid was seething after seeing his promotion-seekers held to a goalless draw by Louth United last Saturday. He has told his players a similar display in their Northern Counties East League first division clash with Winterton Rangers will lead to heads rolling.

"We did not do enough last week. I was very annoyed with the players and there will be quite a few of them on their last warnings this weekend," he said.

"Another performance like that and a few of them will be dropping into the second team. They've set themselves standards now and need to keep them up, but it wasn't good enough last week and we can no longer accept that."

Several first-team players, including captain Dean McAuley, are coming back to fitness, and others currently in the reserves are putting pressure on the men occupying starting places.

"There's a lot of people breathing down their necks. They could go into a shell or come out fighting. If they go into a shell there are plenty of people ready to take their place," he said.

Reid has added former Tadcaster Albion player Matt Cressey to the squad and he is set to make his debut at some stage in the game.

Midfielder Alex Wilgrass is doubtful because of heel and calf injuries, with teenager Danny Farthing on stand-by.

"We need to win. Three points will be a big boost going into the new year," Reid added.

Tadcaster Albion could do Pickering a favour at leaders Hall Road Rangers.

However, Wayne Day's troops will have to cause one of the shocks of the season to take anything from the game, having endured a poor first half of the season, worsened by the costly flood damage at their Ings Park base where they've not played since October.

Nestl Rowntree have the chance to claim outright top spot of the West Yorkshire League premier division tomorrow as they entertain Bardsey (kick off 2pm).

The champions are level on points with unbeaten Carlton Athletic, having played one game more, but could go clear of their Leeds-based rivals, who are on League Cup duty.

Scott Barley, who missed the 2-1 win at Beeston St Anthony's because of a foot injury, will replace the unavailable Elliott Simpson.

York RI are also in League Cup action with a round one trip to Whitkirk Wanderers (ko 1.30pm). Boss Brian Wilkinson is hoping to have players back again after seven first-team regulars missed the league trip to Mount St Mary's last week, which finished 3-3 after RI had led 3-1 going into the last 15 minutes.

Knaresborough Town are scheduled to have a league contest at local rivals Wetherby Athletic (ko 2pm), although this is another game in doubt because of the snow and frost.
