Harrogate Town will look to end a disappointing year on a high note tomorrow as they entertain Winsford United.

Town, who endured a disastrous start to the UniBond League division one campaign with six straight defeats under Dave Fell, have since climbed the table under new boss Mick Hennigan. But one point from the two games either side of Christmas have provided the Wetherby Road club with little festive cheer.

Hennigan, who this week released ex-Leeds United player Andy Couzens and ex-Hucknall Town man Kevin Naughton, admitted he was unhappy with the last two results against struggling sides.

"We never thought we were really away from the fight at the bottom of the table, but we are a bit deeper in it now," he said. "Everybody else has been catching up while we've fallen backwards."

Hennigan is likely to keep the same squad that drew 1-1 with Guiseley on Boxing Day. "We know where we're going wrong, and we're trying to do something about it."

Harrogate Railway's rise up the Northern Counties East League premier division is tested at lowly Liversedge tomorrow, should the pitch survive the weather.

Paul Marshall's men have now gone six games unbeaten, culminating in last week's 4-0 thrashing of Hallam, and are keen to take that form into the new year against their relegation-haunted hosts.

Said Railway's assistant boss Mick Margis: "On last week's performance, we would have beaten anybody. All 11 players who started played to their full potential. The 4-0 scoreline flattered Hallam. Our 'keeper made one save.

"Now we've got the momentum going, it would be a shame if the game is called off. Hopefully we can build on our form."

Alex Middleton, who enjoyed a fine first-team debut against Hallam, keeps his squad place, joined by Steve Stocks, Ian Hutton and Lee Parker, who all move up from the reserves.

Goole, who moved to third in the table with their 2-0 derby defeat of Selby Town last Saturday, continue their bid for promotion with a trip to Denaby United.

Peter Daniel's men, however, are some way behind Ossett Albion and Brigg Town, rival candidates for UniBond League acceptance.

Selby - now looking over their shoulder at the relegation dogfight - have a great opportunity to bounce back from the Goole defeat as they entertain anchor side Armthorpe Welfare.

The Robins will want an improvement on the goalless draw with their guests just two weeks ago.

Goalkeeper Matthew Potter is likely to reclaim his number one spot from Steve Milner, while midfielder Nigel Oldfield is also available.

Craig Pickles could be back after two months' absence, but fellow midfielder Stuart Lee, who missed last Saturday's defeat through injury, is likely to be out for two more weeks.
