Prince Naseem Boxing, published by Codemasters for PlayStation

If you're one of the many people who find the "ring flipping prince" as irritating as say, Richard Whiteley, then it would appear Codemasters have created an opportunity for you to get your own back - with a few rounds against the man himself.

Though the game is pitched as a boxing simulator, it has a very "arcadey" feel about it, which on one side makes it very accessible. However, on the other side, a lot of the realism that you would expect with a sim is missing. Examples of this include bizarre explosions when punches connect that are somewhat reminiscent of the "kapow-bif-sock" days of Batman, and oversized Casualty-type blobs of blood that accompany them. All of this isn't helped by the control of the boxers which is quite vague leaving you feeling uninvolved. Otherwise, all the options that you would expect to see in such a game are present. These range from a quick fight to quite an in- depth career mode where you put a would-be boxer through a balancing act of training, rest and diet regimes in the hope of eventually moulding him into a champ. It's not the best boxing sim around, but it will appeal to boxing fans.
