YORK Ladies beat North Cave 103-70 in the Yorkshire League, winning three of four rinks.

At home Sue Tomlinson, Sheila Turpin, Norma Reed and Maureen Robinson led from the start and won easily 29-10.

Also at home Mary Wreglesworth, Betty Richardson, Joyce Chelin and Joan Jackson were leading 12-0 after only five ends. The momentum was maintained up to the 18th end when a six put them 31-16 ahead, but then a two, six and a one gave the visitors some respectability.

Carol Instone, Sue Kirkpatrick, June Clayton and Dot Kennelly were never in danger at North Cave for a comfortable 29-13 win.

But the other rink of Sue Chilton, Maureen Walker, Ann Redhead and Madge Zimnoch had a far closer game. The scores were tied at 13-13 after 15 ends. Unfortunately, the York team could only score one shot after that, losing 22-14.

New Earswick Ladies gained an excellent 74-68 victory over Thornaby in the same competition.

At home Shirley Hopwood, Clarice Robinson, Audrey Shingles and Lys Jerrum pulled away after the 13th end to record a 26-13 victory.

Jean Barnett, Maureen Cooper, Joan Lister and Pat Storey turned their game round from being 11-5 down to 14-11 up with three ends to play. But they dropped a five and three on the last to lose 19-15.

In Thornaby Margaret Moss, Kath Sykes, Ann Thompson and Dot Kay were losing 11-10 after 14 ends, but then won all but two of the remaining ends for an excellent 19-13 win.

The other away rink saw Gill Clark, Maureen Wood, Moyra Headley and Pat Walker chasing the game from the seventh end once the home side took an 8-6 lead, eventually finishing 23-14 losers.
