York's Millennium Bridge will finally open to the public next month - in time for the Easter holidays.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Shan Braund, will cut a ribbon to officially open the foot and cycle bridge over the River Ouse on the morning of Tuesday, April 10.
The York Millennium Bridge Trust will also formally hand over the bridge and associated riverside walks to City of York Council.
The Evening Press understands it is hoped the Duke of York will unveil a plaque during a visit to North Yorkshire at the end of May.
Work has been delayed by floods, particularly last November when the Ouse rose to record levels. "Our contractors, C Spencer Ltd, and their fabricators, Meldans, have worked exceptionally hard to have the bridge and the approach paths finished before Easter," said trust secretary Paul Chesmore.
