Selby Warriors questioned the decision to play their Yorkshire League division two match at Doncaster Toll Bar on a quagmire of a pitch.

Selby went with a scratch side and lost 16-2 in a game played almost entirely in the middle of the field.

The visitors took the lead with a penalty by Fennel after ten minutes but by half-time Doncaster had built up a 6-2 lead. In the second half Selby went close on a couple of occasions through Friar and Andy Roe but it was the home side who extended their lead to win.

The players are now concentrating on Saturday's York and District Accident Cup final against York Groves at New Earswick. The coach for players and supporters leaves the New Inn at 1pm.

York Acorn 'A' played hosts to Dewsbury Moor 'A' in Yorkshire League division four and were narrowly beaten 12-10.

Key performers for Acorn were debutant hooker and Under-18s player Robbie Dolan, centre Alec Cowton and experienced second rower Barry Fox. Their points came from tries by Gary Hill and Dave Murray to go with a Craig Fox goal.

Heworth 'A' lost 14-10 at Sherburn in the same division.

An evenly contested game saw Heworth hold the early advantage before Sherburn scored 14 points without reply, then prop Jason Kane raced 20 metres to register a fine try and leave Heworth 14-4 behind.

Heworth went on the offensive again in the second half and were rewarded with a try by Jamie Rothwell which he also converted, but they were unable to add to their tally further despite strong pressure.

Kane, Calam, Preece and Johnson were the pick of the Heworth team.

A slow start cost Heworth Under-14s a place in the Yorkshire Junior League Cup final when they were beaten 26-22 at Hunslet Parkside.

The hosts stormed into a 22-6 lead before Heworth got themselves together but they were unable to overhaul the early deficit.

Matt Derry and Marcus Allan impressed with some strong running, while Adam Snowball, Joe Hodgson, Andy Hall and Sam Ackroyd all played well.

New Earswick All Blacks Under-13s need just two points from their last two matches to secure second spot after beating Kippax 24-8.

All Blacks' points were all scored in the first half through tries by Joe Stearman, Jack Billett, Thomas Hodgson, Danny Pfluger and Daryl Fogg plus two goals from Pfluger.

Joe Hemmings was named man of the match.

Acorn Under-12s outclassed Milford to win 22-4.

A 60-metre try from man of the match Matthew Gray and a try by Lee Spain, plus a goal by Lee Botterill, gave Acorn a 10-4.

In the second half they ran in further tries through Gray and Botterill, who also kicked two goals.

Other good performances came from Botterill, Mark Gover, Wesley Potter, Chris Magson and Tom Speck.

Acorn Under-11s produced their best display of the term despite losing 6-4 to Stanley Rangers.

Acorn were well served by the outstanding tackling of man of the match Ross Varley and fine displays by Paul Cross, Luke Watling, Jordan Hind and Daniel Jeevers.

The Acorn try-scorer was Matthew Fairclough.
