Winning Post opened their Rhodes Haulgae Interworks challenge with a 28-18 victory over Tang Hall in a competitive match at New Earswick yesterday.
Tang Hall, who beat Police Panthers in their opening match, opened the scoring with a try by Wayne Foster, converted by full-back Clarke.
Winning Post hit back with tries by Carl Potter and their winger, the former converted by Dave Carling to edge into a 10-6 lead.
But prop Jaston Gatus crashed over to level the scores and the conversion put them back in front 12-10.
As the game continued to swing one way then the other, it was Winning Post who regained the initiative when Mick Harrison fed Carling to go over for a try which he converted himself.
A fine solo effort by Harrison, goaled by Carling, put Winning Post 22-12 up at half-time.
Defences were on top for the first 20 minutes of the second half before Winning Post made sure of victory when man of the match Carling took Harrison's pass to touch down and add the goal.
A minute from time Wayne Foster got a consolation try for Tang Hall which Clarke converted.
The next game is tomorrow when Guildford Construction take on Civil Service Old Boys at New Earswick, kick-off 6.30pm.
