Dunnington overwhelmed Woodhouse Grange by ten wickets to go 11 points clear at the top of the Hunters Estate Agent York and District Senior Cricket League premier division.

Woodhouse Grange were thought by many to be one of the clubs capable of matching Dunnington's powerful line-up.

Grange's Pakistani player Sajid Ali was their only batsman to make an appreciable score against the visitors, hitting 39.

His teammates were blown away by Joe Grant, who gained his best figures of the season in taking six for 54 as Woodhouse struggled to 138-9.

Dunnington skipper Simon Kellett then continued his impressive early season form by making 53 not out and, with opening partner Harwood Williams making an identical contribution, Dunnington sailed to a ten wicket victory.

Second-placed Clifton Alliance lost ground when they were denied victory by Osbaldwick's last pair.

David Taylor made 44, Dave Russell 42 and James Postill 29 for Clifton as they were dismissed for 167 in the 50th over.

Osbaldwick bowlers Steve Machen (5-75) and Stuart Boyle (5-91) took care of all the bowling duties for the home side, who then made 124 for nine in reply.

John Hunter threatened with four for 27, but handy knocks from Steve Jackson, who made 41, and Richie Carew, who made 44, enabled Osbaldwick to escape with a draw.

Thirsk eased into third place with a good win at Pickering, where they had a four wicket advantage in a high scoring game.

Brian Leckenby hit 123 in a home total of 215 for eight as Barry Petty claimed four for 86 and Dave Greenlay three for 69.

Lincoln McRae gave Thirsk a sound start before Des Wyrill (47) and Peter Marwood (49) combined in a fourth wicket stand of 88 to set their side on the way to a four wicket victory.

Heworth's overseas player, South African Graham Hayward, turned in the best all-round performance of the day in the top flight when he top scored with 72 and then took five for 26 to earn his side an advantage draw.

Guy Wilkinson's 33 helped Hayward take Heworth to 192 for nine then Rob Hawley 35, Phil Newcombe 34 and Phil Tulip 26 made runs for Ripon who just managed to avoid defeat at 123 for nine.

There was an exciting finish at Sheriff Hutton Bridge where the home side had marginally the better of a draw when Whitkirk were pegged to 180 for eight after the hosts had made 182 for nine.

Bridge opener Philip Mellows-Facer made 31, Paul Oldfield 42 and wicketkeeper Peter Crowder 39 for the home side. Robert Horner was Whitkirk's most successful bowler with two for 49.

Horner then followed with a top score of 45 for Whitkirk, with early support coming from Stuart Pickles (42).

Paul Oldfield captured four for 58 and Mike Smith two for 22, but their efforts were seriously threatened when Tom Glover hit 39 off 23 balls to almost snatch victory for the Leeds-based side.

Current champions Easingwold's wretched start to the season continued when they suffered a six wicket defeat at the hands of Acomb and they find themselves in a relegation spot after four games.

Acomb skipper Dave Sykes (4-82) made inroads into the home batting but James Pringle hit 51 and Paul Redshaw 40 to enable their side to recover to 172 for eight.

Sri Lankan Duminda Perera then led Acomb's response with an unbeaten 75 and, with Chris Simpson chipping in with 58, Acomb went on to win by six wickets.
