A busy corner of York was even more packed than usual yesterday as crowds enjoyed a charity family fun day.
Organised by the business owners in The Quarter - the Swinegate, Back Swinegate, Little Stonegate and Grape Lane area of the city centre - the event was raising money for York Against Cancer.
Attractions included a bucking bronco, bouncy castle and live music all day.
Andrew Wingfield, manager of the Slug and Lettuce bar, said he expected about £2,500 to have been raised.
He said: "It was a really good day. The place was packed out nearly all day with people enjoying themselves, which was just what we were hoping for.
"At first count about £1,500 had been raised, but we expect another £1,000 or so to come in from other sponsored events.
"This is the first place I have worked where I have known businesses to work together so closely, so for an event like this to be organised and then to be so successful really is something quite special."
