LOONY Elvis impersonator Eddie Vee came out of a musical stand-off with Roy Orbison the victor, even though Roy was voted the finer singer.
Despite losing to Roy Orbison lookalike Dave Wolf in a singing contest at the Civil Service Club in Boroughbridge Road, York, the event helped the candidate for the Monster Raving Loony Party raise a £500 deposit needed to register to stand in the General Election.
Eddie has demanded a rematch - and has now registered as a challenger for the City of York seat. He said: "The time for lunacy is definitely now."
All election nominations had to be placed by 4pm today. A full list of candidates standing in North Yorkshire and the seat of Yorkshire East will be printed in the Evening Press tomorrow.
