Young composers from Acomb Primary School, Holgate, York, were amongst the first school musicians to perform during two continuous days of music-making in York schools.
The children at Holgate wrote their own music using percussion instruments under the guidance of teacher Helen Moulds, who teaches music in the school.
The Holgate music-making was part of a timetable of singing and instrumental music across the city's schools to celebrate the BBC Music Live weekend, which kicks off today.
The timetable meant that as one school finished its turn making music, another began elsewhere, and the whole exercise will continue tomorrow.
School choirs were also due to take part in this afternoon's Big Sing event in the middle of Parliament Street, York.
