The Evening Press has scooped an international award for its handling of the November 2000 floods crisis.
The Press's owners, the American-based global newspaper group Gannett, chose it as one of just five winners of its IDEAS (Innovator Drive for Excellence) award in honour of its work during the disaster.
It is the only UK newspaper to win an award, and beat off competition from a total of 115 entries from news organisations around the world.
Gannett's citation recognised "leadership and service" by the Evening Press during the floods crisis.
"From its coverage in the newspaper and on its website, to its determination to print and deliver the paper despite its own presses being threatened and hardships for staff, and its leadership in helping the city begin to rebuild, the Evening Press was more than equal to the task," says the citation.
Evening Press Managing Director Daphne Ellis hailed the award as a "tremendous achievement", and Editor Liz Page said: "This is a tribute to all our staff, who worked so hard during the crisis."
