ON Sunday, June 3, an open-air meeting will be held to "bless" the new Millennium Bridge.
I doubt if the Lord will wish to bless this 'white elephant' knowing that at a recent count the council had to put into temporary accommodation 120 people, and at that time 40 were sleeping rough because there were insufficient nightly beds provided by the council.
More than £4 million pounds was spent on this bridge. This amount would have built two night-shelter homes, plus a centre for use during the day in adverse weather, or cheap housing for the 120 living in bed and breakfast places.
Are there no Christian councillors or church dignitaries who will stand up and be counted or will they just attend the ceremony?
