Treble winning Selby Town have completed their most successful knock-out season for 33 years after lifting the Umbro Veterans Over-35s Trophy.

As reported in the Evening Press, the Robins' first team won the Northern Counties East League President's Cup, while the reserves lifted the Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup.

The veterans' victory, in the final at England's Bisham Abbey training ground, completed the treble, to give the club their best cup return since 1968.

The veterans saw off 200 teams in a regional knock-out to reach the final where they defeated Derbyshire outfit Mickleover Sports 6-2 to become the first Yorkshire team to lift the trophy.

Mick Tiplady bagged a hat-trick and other goals came from Chris Colllier, Ian Noteman and Vince Archer, while Neil I'Anson was named man of the match.

Club chairman Ralph Pearse said: "We certainly have had a roaring success on the cup front and hopefully we can get better."

Meanwhile, first team striker Peter Collier has been confirmed as runner-up in the Northern Counties East League scoring charts.

As reported in the Evening Press, the Robins hitman netted 25 times this season, but Caine Cheetham scored his 26th of the term in Alfreton Town's last game of the campaign, and his tally has now been validated in the league's scoring charts.

Collier is still the highest scorer in the history of the league with more than 200 strikes to his name.
