North Yorkshire duo Emma Duggleby and Sara Garbutt have both made it through to the last eight of the English Women's Championship at West Sussex.

Defending champion Duggleby, from the Malton and Norton club, beat Scarborough South Cliff's Naomi Edwards 6 and 5 in the first round. She then ousted Kim Andrew (Clitheroe) 2 and 1 in a close second round encounter.

Knaresborough's Garbutt meanwhile defeated C Lipscombe (Cirencester) 5 and 4 then followed that with a 2 and 1 success over N Booth (Brokenhurst Manor).

Also competing in the last eight today is Duggleby's Curtis Cup team-mate Rebecca Hudson from the Wheatley club.

She beat Alex Keighley from Lightcliffe in the second round to avenge the semi-final defeat she suffered last week in the Yorkshire Championship, which Keighley went on to win.

Fulford's Katie Dobson bowed out in the first round. She was beaten by one hole by K Fisher of Royal Lytham.

Duggleby's Malton and Norton clubmate Simon Dyson was beginning his challenge in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth today.

He teed off in mid-morning alongside Ian Garbutt and Irishman Eamonn Darcy.

Setting the early pace was Englishman Barry Lane on three under par after the first eight holes.
