I AM amazed at York Magistrates again letting a persistent shoplifter free after being twice caught stealing from city shops while he was on parole ('Persistent shoplifter escapes jail', May 15).
He was released on bail after again being arrested and again continued shoplifting.
He should have been locked up for at least ten years.
I can't understand why the Evening Press doesn't publish the names of 'soft' magistrates who are undermining our police force by allowing these thieves on our streets after being arrested and charged so regularly.
