York Acorn Rugby League Club had cause for celebration when they staged their annual three-day junior seven-a-side competition.

Acorn Under-9s won their competition, while the Under-8s and Under-13s reached the final of their respective tournaments.

In the Under-9s group, Acorn were joined by teams from Half Acres, East Leeds, Knottingley, Smawthorne and New Earswick. After topping their group in a round-robin competition, Acorn beat Half Acres by five tries to nil in the semi-finals and then won the final five tries to two against Smawthorne, who had beaten East Leeds in the other semi-final.

Acorn were triumphant thanks to the efforts of Ben Johnson, Tom Worthy, Liam Wilkinson, Anthony Chilton, Jordan Hyde, Josh Mortimer and Stuart Leeke.

The Under-8s competition involved teams from Middleton, Acorn, Knottingley, Featherstone, Whinmoor and New Earswick.

In the round-robin section Acorn beat Middleton by five tries to one and drew five tries each with Smawthorne, which earned both sides a place in the semi-finals.

Acorn lost on a golden try to Knottingley after the teams had been locked at five tries each at the end of normal time.

In the final, Knottingley were golden try winners against Featherstone by four tries to three.

Acorn Under-13s defeated New Earswick All Blacks 30-0 with an outstanding semi-final performance, but in the final lost 32-20 to Featherstone.

Acorn and New Earswick reached the Under-10s semi-finals, but lost to Castleford Panthers and Featherstone respectively. Castleford beat Featherstone by seven tries to two in the final.

East Leeds beat Normanton 16-4 in the Under-11s final. Neither Acorn nor New Earswick qualified from the round-robin stage. Smawthorne beat Churwell in the Under-12s final.
