Simon Dyson finished the first day of the Volvo PGA Championship just five shots behind the leader after a superb opening round at Wentworth.
A four under par 68 kept the Malton and Norton professional well in contention to finish among the money in a world class field at Wentworth.
He birdied the fifth, 11th, 12th, 16th and 18th, only dropping a shot at the par three 14th.
It was a terrific start by Dyson who has been struggling to find his form during his first year on the European Tour.
Argentinian Angel Cabrera was the overnight leader after carding a course record equalling nine under par 63.
Dyson's club colleague Emma Duggleby was today facing fellow Curtis Cup player Rebecca Hudson in a repeat of last year's English Women's Championship final at the West Sussex Club.
Holder Duggleby got home on the final green against Derbyshire teenager Fame More in the quarter-final and edged out Knaresborough's Sara Garbutt by one hole in an all-North Yorkshire semi-final.
Hudson, defeated Hertfordshire's Kerry Evans 2 and 1 and then Kerry Knowles (Worplesdon) by two holes.
