A business information technology company which won the Evening Press Growth Business of the year has placed itself into voluntary liquidation.

A creditors' meeting to appoint a liquidator for York-based Growth Computers Ltd which recently changed its name from Software Results will be held at 30 Park Cross Street, Leeds, the headquarters of Begbies Traynor, the corporate rescue and recovery firm, on June 13.

Creditors will be given the chance to question at least one director of the company, including managing director Paul Blanchard, Simon Burke and Jeremy Sinclair.

Mr Blanchard, whose company won the Growth Business of the Year title last December, said today that the voluntary liquidation applied only to the computer sales and services side of his business.

He said he was continuing to create websites under the name of SR Multimedia Ltd at the same offices in Grape Lane, York. "We have created websites for the council and the police. We don't want them or anyone thinking 'Paul's gone bust so we will never ring him again,'" said Mr Blanchard.

He claimed that Software Results lost professional insurance indemnity as a result of a mistake which had since been corrected and on top of that a major supplier of computers had withdrawn guarantees.

His solution, he said, had been a strategic split, creating SR Multimedia Ltd to deal with website creation and Growth Computers Ltd which he had hoped to sell on.

Instead, the goodwill of the computer business was sold to Regent IT run by former employee Jamie Banthorpe-Howlett "who is continuing to honour our warranties.".

He added: "So now that the goodwill has been sold and it is no longer trading I have been advised to place it into voluntary liquidation."
