HORNSEA'S overseas star Michael Johnston sailed past the 600-run mark in division three when he added a further 76 runs to his two centuries in the previous two games.

However, he was outshone by Dave Prescott's 87 as Hornsea reached 248-6 against Cawood despite the efforts of Nigel Bartram who took 4 for 105.

Cawood's veteran Brian Hall laid aside his second team umpire's coat to lead his side's reply with 63 and, with Stuart Baxter (45) and Richard Nicholson (33) also prospering, Cawood were able to gain a comfortable draw at 175 for 6.

Malton and Old Malton's hopes of gaining a full point victory at the expense of Heslington were stymied by Robin Cockerill, whose defiant 79 not out enabled Heslington to avoid defeat at 127 for 8. Malton had earlier made 209 for 9 through Neil Johnson (45) and Greg Johnson, who made 71, as Andy Webb captured 4 for 74 for the visitors.

Londesbrough Park moved up two places into fourth position when they inflicted an eight wicket defeat on a Bolton Percy side shorn of eight regular first team players.

Jamie Rigby (53) made a handy half century for Bolton while team-mate Mike Furze chipped in with 29 as Rob Cooper took 3 for 63. Replying for Londesbrough, Simon Dodd hit 66 and John Williamson 46 as Park eased to victory at 150 for 2.

The clash between Heworth II and Osbaldwick II was, like the premier division meeting of the clubs, a closely fought affair with Osbaldwick getting slightly the better of the encounter in a drawn game. Richie Carew hit 75, Graham Gosling 44 and Andy Levison 26 as Osbaldwick posted a total of 209 for 5 in an attempt to register their first victory.

Graham Hogben led Heworth's reply with 65 while Jason Gatus made 36 and Dave Bell 56 to counter the bowling of Dyran Joshi, who captured all five of the Heworth wickets to fall at a cost of 69, Heworth reaching 199 for 5 at the close.

There was a closely fought draw at Hovingham where Woodhouse Grange II just had the advantage.

Steve Thompson and Russell Bilton enabled the Grange to reach a total of 189 for 7. When Hovingham replied, John Fairburn made 33, Richard John 28 and Richie Brown 42. Peter Nolton claimed 4 for 65 to keep the game equally poised but John Mosey then threatened to pull off a home victory with an unbeaten 41 as Hovingham moved to 185 for 7.

However, two wickets then fell at this score and Mosey was unable to score the extra four needed for a home victory while the visiting attack were denied the final wicket as the Hovingham innings ended on 186 for 9.

Selby remain firmly entrenched in one of the three relegation places following their defeat by New Earswick, who emerged with a four wicket advantage. Selby's Alan Hullah made 30 in his side's 154 for 8 as Martin Hewitson took 3 for 46. Skipper James Routledge then spearheaded Earswick's successful reply as he hit 52 with support from Andy Freeman 28 and Andy Routledge 25 as Kevin Lund's 3 for 41 was to no avail.
