SECOND-PLACED York II entertained leaders Beverley Town and gained a good five-wicket victory to reduce the east Yorkshire side's lead in division one of the Hunters the Estate Agent York and District Senior Cricket League to 16 points.

Namibian Tobias Verney was Beverley's top scorer with 37 while Ali Brumfield added 33 and Ian Goforth 29 as their side made 176-7. John Cook was York's most successful bowler with 3 for 21.

David Catlow and Ed Senneck both hit 64 for York and with Andrew Kay adding 32, York reached a match-winning 180-5.

Wilberfoss gave their hopes of survival a boost with a four-wicket win over Driffield thanks to the all-round talents of Matthew MacIntosh.

The Aussie took 3 for 82 as Driffield reached 188 for 6 then hit 72 in the successful Wilberfoss reply. The match batting honours, however, went to Driffield's Mark Tennant who made an unbeaten 95. His overseas team-mate Ankur Sondhi weighed in with 45 and 'Foss skipper Ian Clish made 49 in his side's 192 for 6.

Stamford Bridge's recent revival came to a halt when they suffered a home defeat against Carlton Towers in a game which saw a century on each side as both teams pocketed maximum batting points. Stamford stalwart Graham Tipping improved on his recent run of good scores by notching his first ever century, making 104 as he and Peter Aconley (33) helped Stamford to 208 for 6. Carlton's Stuart Coleman then hit back in similar fashion to make his second century of the season in reaching 110. Paul Wright 37 and Jason Schmidt 29no provided the support as Carlton ran out winners by six wickets despite the efforts of Brian Aconley, who took 3 for 31.

Crayke kept their promotion ambitions alive with the better of a draw over Sessay whose 168 for 7 was some way short of the home total of 229 for 7. Crayke's Paul Hutchinson hit his best score of the season when he made 81 while Andrew Dawson made 61 to counteract Richard Till's 5 for 81. In Sessay's reply, John Flintoff made 52, Nick Harrison 36 and Matthew Till 33 but Mark Hutchinson strengthened his rating as divisional leading wicket taker with 5 for 73 to confirm Crayke's domination.

Dringhouses are still searching for their first victory of the season after a fine spell of bowling by their skipper Mick Kenyon failed to clinch a victory at Duncombe Park. Dringhouses were dismissed for 182 as Paul Wilkie took 4 for 36 and Will Mallory 3 for 50. Kev McGuinness top scored for the York side with 53 and Alistair Darnell added 40 while their total received a good boost from 42 extras. Mallory then led Park's reply with an unbeaten 63 but Kenyon threatened to bowl his side to victory as he captured 7 for 57 in an 18-over spell. However, his fellow bowlers failed to capture a wicket, Dringhouses only other success being a run-out as the Helmsley side gained a fairly comfortable draw at 158 for 8

Pocklington improved their prospects of an immediate return to the premier division when they gained a good last over victory at Stillington. The home side suffered an early setback when the league's leading run-scorer, Mohammed Hafeez, was caught by Martin Nesom off Kev Hinch for 10. The same bowler then dismissed Shaminda Dissanayake for 14 with the aid of a Dave O'Gram catch, who then caught Andy Megginson for a duck off Mike Newhouse.

Opener Paul Mosey had made 44 when he was stumped by Henry Mitchell off Newhouse at 84 for 4. The best stand of the innings then followed as Dave Herbert (53) and Dave Allitt (27) added 70 before the former was bowled by Rich Foster. Allitt was then run out and the home innings folded at 179.

Pocklington made a modest start but Sean Houltham and Rod Hinch then put their side in command with a third wicket partnership of 73 which ended when Houtham was caught by Coulson off Dean Wharton for 45.

Hinch then found another ally in brother Kevin but fell to Hafeez for 60 at 157. Kev Hinch was fifth out at 176, one of two victims for Coulson (3 for 59) at that score but their efforts had set Pocklington on the victory trail and a four-wicket triumph was clinched off the first ball of the final over.
