CARNIVAL fever gripped Copmanthorpe when the whole village turned out in glorious sunshine to celebrate an annual tradition.
The excellent weather meant the event went without a hitch and the streets were lined with supporters waving on the colourful procession of floats.
First prize went to the Copmanthorpe Youth Club for its float designed along a Carnival of the Animals theme.
Second place went to the Copmanthorpe Pre-School Playgroup for its rain forest-themed float and the Temple Lane Playgroup came third with its float which had a Mardi Gras theme.
David Kershaw, chairman of the carnival committee, said: "It was brilliant, largely because the weather was so good. We couldn't believe our luck because it seemed like we were the only place in the country where it wasn't raining.
"The main attraction was the falconry display by the Birds of Prey and Owl Sanctuary from near Bridlington, and the Lisa Marie Dance School also did a half-an-hour display, which was also excellent." Television presenter Carolyn Hodgson opened the carnival and presented the trophy to the winning float.
Mr Kershaw said: "The whole day went very well indeed."
