York City have announced public relations officer Sophie McGill will be leaving the club at the end of this month.

McGill, who joined City in October 1999, is leaving Bootham Crescent to join her family's business, JM Packaging based in Malton. It is understood the club are hoping to fill the vacancy.

McGill, 23, said: "I've gained tremendous experience during my time at York City and I am particularly grateful to the chairman and the board of directors for giving me my first job after leaving university.

"It's been somewhat of a dream come true working for the club I support and I hope I have made a positive contribution to improving the club's relations with the fans, the local community and the media.

"My decision to leave is based on the fact that I feel it is time for a change and I am now looking forward to the new challenges that await me.

"I sincerely wish everyone at the club much success for the coming season and I look forward to cheering on the team from my old seat in the Popular Stand."
