NEW prefects were appointed at Queen Margaret's School, Escrick, during the annual school speech day.

The headmaster, Dr Geoffrey Chapman, gave the address at the event, during which he talked about the school's recent centenary celebrations and new building work.

He talked about the centenary sports tour to Australia and New Zealand which will take place in August, during which the girls will compete against three other 'Margaret' schools in a tournament to mark the 75th anniversary celebrations of

Two girls from that school have also been invited to attend Queen Margaret's School, Escrick, during part of the spring term next year, and two of next year's lower sixth will also get the chance to go to Australia in return.

Dr Chapman gave a progress report on the school's appeal for a new chapel and theatre, for which three quarters of the required funds have been raised. Building work has already begun.

The new prefects are Camilla Horsfield, Mollie Cuthbert, Elizabeth Lockett, Olivia Millen, Amanda Watkins, Amy Bibby, Jennifer Bradley, Catherine McIntyre, Camilla Hook, Emma Bladon, Rowena Macrae, Jessica Duncan, Natalie Cooper, Jenny Bianco, and Rebecca Gill with Camilla Bowring as deputy head girl and Lydia Chase as head girl.
