York City midfielder Craig Skinner has departed Bootham Crescent, it was announced today.

Transfer-listed Skinner's contract has been cancelled by mutual consent.

The news will be a relief to City chief Terry Dolan, who had made it clear the 30-year-old was not part of his long-term plans.

Following hot on the heels of Barry Conlon's departure to Darlington last week, it gives the City manager yet more space to bring in fresh blood ahead of the new campaign.

Earlier this year, Skinner, who failed to make a first team appearance last season and started just four games in his entire City career, had his contract terminated by the Minstermen but won his appeal against his sacking at a tribunal.

He joined City in March 1999 from Wrexham for a fee of around £20,000 but made only ten appearances in total.

City have also announced public relations officer Sophie McGill will be leaving the club at the end of this month.

McGill, who joined City in October 1999, is leaving Bootham Crescent to join her family's business, JM Packaging based in Malton. It is understood the club are hoping to fill the vacancy.

McGill said: "I've gained tremendous experience during my time at York City and I am particularly grateful to the chairman and the board of directors for giving me my first job after leaving university.

"It's been somewhat of a dream come true working for the club I support and I hope I have made a positive contribution to improving the club's relations with the fans, the local community and the media.

"My decision to leave is based on the fact that I feel it is time for a change and I am now looking forward to the new challenges that await me.

"I sincerely wish everyone at the club much success for the coming season and I look forward to cheering on the team from my old seat in the Popular Stand."
